A portion of Daniil Medvedev's hard-earned A$91,500 payday is expected to be donated in the form of fines, following an extraordinary tantrum at the Washington Open.

The former US Open champion was in cruise control after taking the first set 6-1 in his quarter-final against Frenchman Corentin Moutet, but from then on, it all unravelled in a bizarre sequence of events.

Both players took medical timeouts in sweltering conditions, peaking at 35 degrees, before the match was temporarily suspended due to lightning.

It was an awkward moment for the pause to occur for Medvedev, re-entering the court to try and serve to stay in the contest.

Moutet wrapped up the win with one of the best match points you will see in 2025.

A furious Medvedev threw his racquet which narrowly missed spectators before smashing two water bottles on the ground multiple times, enough to leave them in tatters.

The 29-year-old was booed by fans as he exited the court.

Moutet will play in his first semi-final at an ATP event above 250 level against Australia's Alex de Minaur.
