Four days after encountering the worst possible luck, Grigor Dimitrov has shared an update on social media following his latest injury setback.

The 34-year-old was two sets to love up against world No.1 Jannik Sinner in the fourth-round at Wimbledon, but in tragic circumstances, he was forced to retire at 2-2 in the third set due to a torn pectoral muscle.

It was the fifth consecutive Grand Slam that the Bulgarian withdrew mid-match.

However, Dimitrov is in good spirits from his hospital bed, as he confirmed that his "recovery starts now".

"Sometimes the heart wants to keep going... but the universe has a different plan for us," he wrote.

"Having to withdraw from this match at Wimbledon was one of the most painful moments of my career.

"Thank you for the overwhelming wave of love - from family, friends, fans, colleagues, to the entire tennis community... your messages have genuinely lifted me through these hard times. Thank you all. Truly... I'll see you all soon."

According to Bulgarian publication TennisKafe, Dimitrov is expected to miss the upcoming tournaments in Bastad (July 14-20), Toronto Masters (July 27-August 7) and the Cincinnati Masters (August 7-18).

The former world No.3 is a three-time major semi-finalist, who has revitalised his career over the past few years after a terrible run of injuries.
